Jill Geritano is a certified elementary school teacher (K-9), certified reading specialist (K-12) and has recently finished her coursework to become a Dyslexia Therapist. She will be taking the certification exam later this year to officially become a Certified Academic Language Therapist or CALT.  Jill works with students in the Wheaton, IL area and founded her tutoring practice in May 2008. She officially adopted the name “The Booklight” in June 2023. This name represents her view that she can help students by shining a light on their path to reading. It’s the student’s persistence and hard work that brings them success in reading, and she simply shows them the way!

Jill received her undergraduate degree in elementary education from the University of Iowa in 2002 and her Master's Degree in Curriculum and Instruction - Reading from Northeastern Illinois University in 2010.  Jill has over 20 years of experience working with students in a variety of roles, including classroom teacher, reading tutor, dyslexia therapist, and literacy coach.  She taught Kindergarten, 1st grade, and 4th grade, has tutored students in grades K-7, and has provided dyslexia therapy to students in grades 2-5.  Jill has also served as the lead reading teacher for a non-profit after school program in Chicago and worked as a Literacy Coach for Children’s Literacy Initiative. In this role, Jill provided professional development in the area of literacy to K-3 teachers in Chicago. Jill is passionate about early childhood education, early literacy and making reading accessible for all.  She loves watching as a child discovers the joy of reading and hopes to make learning to read enjoyable and fun for all!  Jill lives in Wheaton with her husband and three children.  In her spare time, she enjoys yoga, traveling, reading, spending time in the great outdoors with friends and family, furthering her education, and advocating for education and child-related causes.
